Anaheim High School Community,

Welcome! My name is Rubén Calleros, the proud principal of Anaheim High School. It is extremely humbling and an honor to serve the people of this great community for the last seven school years. Anaheim is such a premier school that is built on its rich history and dedication to empowering every student to thrive beyond their years at Anaheim. As we embark on the 2025-26 school year, I, along with our dedicated staff, are excited to welcome students and families back to school.

We work extremely hard to ensure that we fulfill our vision of being a “Center of Learning and Service.” Recognizing the challenges of our ever-changing society, we are committed to providing our students with a comprehensive and meaningful curriculum. Our teachers collaborate on a weekly basis and discuss research-based best practices, curriculum, data, assessments, project-based learning opportunities, and the different interventions needed to meet the needs of all of our students.

This work is built on the foundation of our Career Preparedness Systems Framework, a guide that focuses on developing 21st-century skills, technical skills, along with helping our students discover their sense of purpose and voice. To ensure our students get what they need to succeed, our recent professional development placed an emphasis on gathering our students’ lived experiences and feedback. These conversations have been insightful, as our teachers and staff continuously strive to uplift our students by removing inequities and building on their strengths and the cultural wealth of our community.

The success of Anaheim High School does not solely fall on our staff and students. Much of our success stems from families and community stakeholders coming together to ensure that our students excel. This effort resulted in Anaheim High School becoming a beacon across the country in community school work. The goal of a community school is to take a holistic approach to nurturing the whole child. To achieve that, we work hand-in-hand with all families, alumni, and community members. During the past couple of years of doing community schools work, I realized that a community school is not a place, but a feeling, where students, families, staff, and community feel welcomed, heard, and empowered to be equal stakeholders in our decision-making.

To build on this effort, we strongly encourage you to play an active role in your child’s education. This can be achieved by being a member of our Parent Teacher Student Association, our English Learners Advisory Committee, School Site Council, or our Parent Ambassador Program. I also host monthly ‘Coffee with Principal’ talks and Learning Walks where you can see firsthand the great things happening at Anaheim and discuss with other families how to better support and improve the student experience.

As we reflect on the transformative work we’ve done these last couple of years and look to the upcoming school year, we are at a unique crossroads in Anaheim’s 127-year history. In our commitment to educate the whole child and to support them with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed beyond their years at Anaheim, we must reflect on whether or not our current practices inadvertently create barriers to their success. This year, a team of Anaheim staff will collaboratively work with one another to ensure that our current systems and practices not only uphold our vision but are built on a foundation of relationships, relevance, and rigor. Our whole child approach must be more than a written commitment in our vision statement; it must be realized in our work through actions and practice.

We hope you join us on this innovative journey to transform Anaheim High School into a model school where hope, opportunity, and unity thrive for so many students and families. Should you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, feel free to visit or contact our school. Together, we can ensure our students are college, career, and life-ready, which ultimately leads to meaningful jobs and engaged citizens ready to lead in the community.

Principal

Sincerely,

Rubén Calleros
